Leiden University Visits XJTU, Pushing Ahead Cooperation

On March 27th, ProfessorMarcello Bonsangue from Leiden University, The Netherlands visited XJTU. Vice President Xi Guang met ProfessorMarcello at meeting room 107 of the Science Building, with the company of Liang Li,directorof the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Liu Jiankang, Dean of the School ofthe school of Life Science and Technology and Guan Xiaohong, Dean oftheSchool of Electronic and Information Engineering.

Xi Guang introduced the historyand dominant disciplines of XJTU. Having just celebrated its 120 years’ anniversary, XJTU is open-minded and committed to deep cooperation with world top universities oneducation, scientific research and other fields. In November of last year, President Wang Shuguo led a delegation and visited Leiden University. The two universitiessigned a strategic partnership agreement anddiscussed the details of cooperation, so as to achieve complementary advantages. Guan Xiaohong and Liu Jiankang expressed thedesiresto introduce more international exchange programs and scientific cooperative projects for XJTU.Many multinational enterprises in China are doing a lot of business in Europe.Therefore, students with a Sino-European university training background in these enterprises willenjoy an unrivaled competitive edge andbe favoredby these corporations.

ProfessorMarcello said he was honored todiscussedspecific cooperation programs on behalf of Leiden University with XJTU. He introduced existing programs offered by Leiden University to undergraduates, master’s and doctor’s candidates and discussed aboutscholarships, exchange of credits and recognition of degrees in details.

In the evening of March 27, ProfessorMarcello delivered a lecture to XJTU students on master’s degree and summer programs at Leiden University at meeting room 207 of the Science Building.

Leiden University is one of the most prestigious universities in Europe. Founded on February 8th, 1575, it boasts the longest history among all higher education institutions in the Netherlands and is one of the founding members of The League of European Research Universities, or the European Ivy League. It currently has nine schools, more than 50 departments, 150-odd majors and 11 core research fields. It is home to more than 40 national or international research institutes and tops Europe in terms of the ranking of the humanities.
