From September 29 to October 5,hosted jointly by the National General Administration of Sports, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Aviation and Space Model Championship and China International Flight Design Challenge Match on Research Type in 2014 was held in Jiaozhou, Shandong. The match had 8 items. Over 1000 students from 73 universities including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University and Harbin Institute of Technology took part in the match.The Student Model Airplane Team of XJTU got the group champions of two items including “Solar Energy Plane” and “the Launching and Returning of Model Rocket”(Chang’e Going to the Moon),one first group prize of the item“Over the Ground Reconnaissance“, one individual third place and 2 third prizes on innovationevaluation.
The National Aviation and Space Model Championship and China International Flight Design Challenge Match onCADC Research Type has been held successfully 11 times since 2004.The match is different from the traditional aviation and space model match. Its item setup pays more attention to the designing and making of aircrafts .The participating players make the aviation and space models themselves, contract the scale, confirm the flight and test the feasibility, reliability and practicability. The match aims to raise the physical quality of the students, further tap and expand the science and technology innovation capacity of university students and the relevant personnel of research institutes in connection with the relevant research tasks and build a platform to explore innovation talents and test innovation works in order to train the reserve power for aviation industry and national defense. It is the aviation and space model innovation match in China that has the highest rank and largest scale.
The Student Model Airplane Team of XJTU consists of 27 doctoral students, graduate students and undergraduate students from the School of Aeronautics and Aerospace, the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Energy and Power Engineering, the School of Electric Engineering, the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, the School of Life Science and Technology, Wenzhi College, Pengkang College, Nanyang College, Zhongying College and Lizhi College. Professor Yu Dehong acted as the guiding teacher. While they prepared for half a year, they were greatly supported by the Institute of Scientific Research, the Office of Teaching Affairs, the Department of Students and the relevant schools and colleges.
While the match was held, the president of the Department of General Armaments of the People's Liberation Army ZhangYouxia went to the match site, watched the participating items of XJTU, talked with the participating members and signed his name on the participating model plane to be kept as a souvenir. He encouraged the students of XJTU to connect the theory with practice, fully train their own capacity and devote themselves to the cause of national defense.
