On the morning of September 12, the EU Commissioner of Education, Culture, Language Diversity and Youth Ms. Delura Vasiliou and the Delegation of EU in China visited XJTU. President Wang Shuguo and Vice President Lu Tianjian kindly talked with the visiting guests. Further cooperation between XJTU and EU were Discussed. The Director of Europe Office of the International Department of the Ministry of Education Yang Xiaochun and the Director of the International Office of Shaanxi Province Education Department Sun Jianning accompanied the visit. The heads of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges and the School of Management attended the meeting.
President Wang warmly welcomed Ms. Delura Vasiliou and her party. He expressed his thanks for Ms. Delura Vasiliou’s always attention to and support for Sino-European educational development and hoped that she would help continuously promote the cooperation and exchange between China and Europe in the field of education and culture. President Wang also hoped that more students of XJTU would pursue their studies in European universities and their European counterparts would come to learn in XJTU.
Ms. Delura Vasiliou said that the beautiful campus of XJTU refreshed her memories of her school years.
Contrasting the similarities and differences between the cultures in China and Europe Ms. Delura Vasiliou said she hoped that the diversity and richness of language and culture could be retained. She felt very happy that she got the chance to share the latest EU projects open to China in the field of education during her visit. She pointed out that the cooperation between China and Europe has entered a new era .This is the best opportunity for the two to further strengthen cooperation.
Later, Ms. Delura Vasiliou delivered a speech entitled “Development of Higher Education in Europe and EU Student Mobility”. In the speech, she briefly introduced the development history, working languages and operation mechanism of EU. She expressed that EU would create more opportunities for Chinese students to study in Europe and she hoped that more Chinese students could take part in the activities under the “High Level People to People Dialogue” mechanism and promote the education and culture exchange between China and Europe. Vice president Lu hosted the speech and pointed out that the Silk Road, traversing the east and west and connects Asia and Europe, has its origin in Xi’an. He welcomed EU students to Xi’an for participation in all kinds of exchange programs and expected that XJTU would build a closer relationship with the universities in Europe.
During her stay in Xi’an, Ms. Delura Vasiliou was interviewed by the mass media like China Daily and Phoenix Net. She said, “XJTU is one of our important project partners. The XJTU project of joint research on Chinese and European Adjustment and Optimization l has achieved great success. She commented Chinese Culture as “time-honored and unique, rich and colorful”. She hoped that China and Europe could have more cultural and art exchanges.
Previously on September 6, Ms. Delura Vasiliou talked with Vice Premier Liu Yandong on the cooperation between China and Europe in education, culture and women’s rights in Beijing. They discussed the potential fields and opportunities for China and Europe to further enlarge and deepen cooperation. The two leaders attended the Second Sino-Europe Conference on HPPD and summarized the results got since HPPD was initiated two years ago. The project of joint research on Chinese and European adjustment and optimization led by the School of Management of XJTU was paid attention to by the high levels of China and Europe and its research results were highly evaluated and praised by the leaders of two parties.
