On the morning of August 2, the 19th International Big Data and Information Quality Conference was held in XJTU. The theme of the conference was: “Big Data, Data Management and Data Quality“. The academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the vice president of XJTU Prof. Xu Zongben, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the honorary president of the School of Management Prof. Wang Yingluo, the CEO of the Asian and Pacific Office of Ann Kong Mr. Frederic Jouve, the party board member and general inspector of Shaanxi Province Quality Supervision Bureau Mr. Gao Yang, the president of Shaanxi Province Geography Information Industry Association Mr. Chen Li, the officials of Shaanxi Province Xianyang New District Big Data Industrial Park, and professor Chen Mingzhi from Taiwan Furen University attended the opening ceremony. Nearly 100 experts and scholars from over ten countries in the field of big data joined the conference. The opening ceremony was chaired by the president of the School of Management Prof. Huang Wei.
After the conference began, the chief data official and the director of data quality project of MIT Richard Wang briefly introduced Big Data and announced that the next conference would be held in MIT.
Academician Wang Yingluo delivered a speech. He said the changes brought by Big Data had deeply affected the world. The development of Big Data not only raised the awareness and capacity of data service, but also promoted significant transformations in all walks of life. Big Data has enormous commercial value. But the value should be grounded on accurate, all-round and timely high-quality data. Meanwhile, he emphasized though we realized the bright prospect of Big Data, we should not also see the problems and challenges of Big Data management. He encouraged the participating scholars to seize the potential opportunities in the era of Big Data and make a difference.
Mr. Liu Jun, the director general of the Fengxixincheng Economic Development and Business Attraction Bureau , Xixian New District, Shaanxi Province introduced Shaanxi and Xixian New District in his presentation and analyzed the features, advantages, existing problems, major work,and follow-up exploration of the Big Data industry at Xixian New District.
Prof. Xu Zongben, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the vice president of XJTU and the data analysis expert in Big Data, delivered a keynote presentation Exploring Big Data Analysis: Basic Science Problems. He introduced the research trends, methods and interdisciplinary research fields of Big Data in three aspects including the opportunities and challenges in the era of Big Data, employment of big data in analysis and resolution of systematic problems, and Big Data research.
The famous scholars and industrial specialists like the professor of American University of Arkansas and BIG Data expert John TALBURT, , the specially invited committee member of the Medical Reform Expert Committee of the State Council Mr. Fang Zhiwu, the CEO of the Asian and Pacific Office of Ann Kong Mr. Frederic Jouve, the vice general manager of Shaanxi Province Industrial Investment Group Mr. Xu Jin, and the dean of the School of Management Prof. Huang Wei delivered keynote speeches at the conference.
The conference lasted for two days and had six parallel sessions. The participants discussed the themes like “data mining and data quality”, “information quality evaluation and upgrading”, “data quality and information quality management”, “data quality and information quality application” and “Big Data and business management”. Many media including Xinhua News Agency, ZhongXin News Agency ,China Daily, China Social Science Paper, Science and Technology Daily, People’s Daily, People Net, Sina net, Phoenix Net and Xi’an TV Station etc covered the conference.
The International Big Data and Information Quality Conference was initiated in MIT in 1992.It aims to promote the development and exchanges of information quality and data science in research, technology and practice. The conference has been held successfully 18 times in the world and attracted famous scholars and entrepreneurs of many countries including America, Canada, Australia, China, UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Finland, Spain, Italy, India, Brazil and Argentina. This year, the conference is held in Asia for the first time, demonstrating the recognition of the School of Management of XJTU by international peers in big data and quality studies.
