On April 2, a paper entitled Reference-Frame-Independent Quantum-Key-Distribution Server with a Telecom Tether for an On-Chip Client written by the associate professor Zhang Pei, the School of Science, was published on line on the top physics journal Physical Review Letters. The paper was finished by professor Zhang in cooperation with Nokia while visiting the British University of Bristol.
Quantum-key-distribution is a new technology that realizes secret-keeping correspondence based on quantum mechanics. It is one of the quantum information technologies applicable from lab experiment. Owing to precise equipment and budget availability, it is only applied to such institutions as governments, armies and banks now. Using new quantum-key-distribution scheme, this experiment solves the problem of real-time calibration bysenders and receivers in reference system and realizes miniaturization and integration of a party in quantum-key-distribution by intricate design. The experiment demonstrated that the method could not only resist the slow noises of channels but also resume work after violent perturbation motion. These results will greatly expand the quantum secret-keeping correspondence applications and provide an effective solution to the quantum correspondence of mobile terminal. The paper attracts wide attention from international peers. Commentary articles and reports could be found on MIT Technology Review and http://physicsworld.com respectively.
In recent years, the School of Science has strengthened laboratory building and young faculty training. Supported by the “985” project, the School of Science has fostered a strong Quantum Optic Laboratory in talent training, scholarship publications and research projects. Currently, the Quantum Optic Laboratory is conducting in-depth researches of relevant fields.
The research was jointly funded by China Scholarship Council and the National Natural Science Foundation.
