On the afternoon of May 14, a delegation from the University of Nebraska visited Zhongying College to take part in a cultural exchange with the theme “Musical Art.”
Four musicians from the Nebraska delegation performed music by Beethoven and other famous composers that was at times gentle and soft, and at times rousing and exciting. They closed with a familiar Chinese folk song Morningstar Lily is Red When in Blossom.
This led in to a performance by XJTU’s folk music troupe, which played traditional music on Chinese folk music instruments such as the lute, the ancient zither, the erhu and the dulcimer. As the familiar strains and gentle rhythms filled the air, a simple and elegant mountain and water painting appeared. Dance of Yi Nationality and British Inspection Soldiers caused the resonance of the audiences.
After the performances, the artists mingled with each other and with those in attendance. They discussed the performances and the pleasure they brought, and shared their knowledge about the instruments and about the nature of traditional music.
