On December 6, a delegation from Taiwan’s Xinzhu Jiaotong University, headed by its vice president, XU Qianshu, visited XJTU for the purpose of discussing how to develop more extensive cooperation between the two universities. XJTU President ZHENG Nanning met with Vice President XU and his party, which included the heads of a number of schools and administrative departments, who met with their XJTU counterparts to discuss specific proposals for raising the level of cooperation between the two schools.
At a formal discussion held afterward, President ZHENG Nanning welcomed the visitors and expressed the hope that these meetings might lay the foundation for further mutual cooperation in order to improve the quality of undergraduate education at both universities. Vice President XU concurred, saying that the discussion would open a new path for future exchange and cooperation.  
The participants agreed that substantial cooperation between the two Jiaotong Universities, situated on opposite sides of the Strait, would be highly beneficial because of their complementary strengths and advantages in areas such as energy and power engineering, photoelectricity, IT and management. They also discussed double degree programs and the possibility of enrolling the XJTU graduate students at Xinzhu Jiaotong University.
After a morning of discussions, Vice President XU and Vice President LU Tianjian summarized the progress that had been made, and expressed the hope that the two universities might reach a consensus and develop a plan as soon as possible in order to take advantage of the complementary strengths of the two institutions. .
