HKU Vice President Ian Holliday Visits XJTU

In the morning of March 8, a delegation led by Professor Ian Holliday, Vice President of the University of Hong Kong, arrived in XJTU for a visit. Vice President Xi Guang met the delegation atthe MeetingRoom 107 of the Science Building, with the company of Dr. Liang Li, Chief of the Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs, and other officials from the Office of Academic Affairs.

 

 

During the meeting, Xi Guang and Ian Holliday recalled fruitful cooperation between the two universities over recent years and expressed best wishes forbroader and deeper cooperation under the platform of theUniversityAlliance of the Silk Road. Then, the head of the Office of Academic Affairs introduced the achievements XJTU has made in the undergraduate education reform, including an overview of the Undergraduate School and the School of Qian Xuesen and the incorporation of MOOC into the undergraduate curriculum.

 

 

After the meeting, the delegation led by Ian Holliday visited the Westward Migration Memorial at XJTU and admired the long history of theUniversity and the remarkable achievements in education.

The HKU and XJTU signed the Student Exchange Agreement and the Xi’an Declaration in 2016 and became strategic partners of each other. The two parties send six exchange students every school year. At the moment, three XJTU students are exchanged to the HKU. The two parties launched teacher and student exchange programs between Hong Kong and mainland universities in 2015 and have seen the number of programs growing ever since. Fiveprogramshave been implemented so far. Among them, The Past and Present of the Silk Road-Xi’an Stop and The Cultural Identity and Representation Program are very popular among both teachers and students of the HKU, and have delivered meaningful results over the three years. Hong Kong students have gotdeep understandingof the Silk Road civilization and and the motherland through studies and investigations related to the Silk Road. A sense of nationalpride has beengreatly enhanced amongteachers and students fromHong Kong.
