In the morning of April 10, a delegation led by Professor Yeo Kiat Seng, Associate Provost at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), visited XJTU and the two parties signed a Student Exchange Agreement. Vice President Xi Guang met the guests at meeting room 107 of the Science Building, with the company of Liang Li, director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, and Huang Wei, Dean of the School of Management .

Xi Guang gave a warm welcome to Yeo for his second visit. Then, the two parties held in-depth talks over academic cooperation, talent development, degree programs and resource sharing , among other things. Xi Guang said it is necessary to offer some challenging courses to the students, to inspire them to surmount difficulties, use their brains actively and finally to solve all difficulties and become innovative talents that are able to tackle complex problems. Yeo agreed to that and pointed out that in the context of intensifying international competition, universities should change their way of teaching and weave innovation into everyday teaching activities, so as to adapt to the fast changing and developing world. Xi Guang wished XJTU and SUTD would explore more possibilities of cooperation on scientific research on the basis of friendly reciprocal visits and student exchange.

Yeo briefly introduced SUTD, a university that combines Chinese and western culture and is concentrated on design and science & technologies. SUTD is committed to elite education and has a small enrollment of qualified top students exclusively every year. Moreover, SUTD keeps experimenting with new teaching methodology, in a bid to change their students from learning knowledge to applying knowledge and prepare them for contributing to the global society and economic development. Yeo said that SUTD is working closely with some prestigious universities in Europe and the USA, but is looking forward more to exchanging with universities in Asia, especially in China, at a deeper level. He wished that more concrete joint efforts on student exchange and academic studies would roll out between XJTU and SUTD.

After the meeting, Xi Guang and Yeo Kiat Seng signed a Student Exchange Agreement on behalf of their universities.
