The Temple University Delegation Visits XJTU

In the afternoon of March 13, professor Kose John led a delegation from The US-based Temple University, arrived in XJTU for a visit. Vice President Xi Guang met the delegation at meeting room 107 of the Science Building, with the company of Liang Li, director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Huang Wei, Dean of the School of Management, and Guo Yusen, Director of Jinhe Center for Economic Research.

 

 

Xi Guang warmly welcomed the delegation and introduced the history and the academic strength of XJTU. He pointed out that XJTU would like to start substantive cooperation with world-class universities and hoped Professor Kose John would work with professors in finance, economics and management at XJTU and realize the complementary advantages.

Professor Kose John said he was honored to visit XJTU and looking forward to successful cooperation with XJTU in some relevant fields in the future. According to him, the Dean of the School of Business, Temple University is very supportive to cooperate with XJTU and hopes the two universities will work together on scientific studies of some cutting-edge issues, so as to build a knowledge framework, launch interdisciplinary studies on the Silk Road, expand academic strength and reputation, build a world-class scientific research center and solve significant realistic issues. In the meantime, the Finance Summit Forum is intended to focus on frontier issues, unite top-notch scholars around the world and incubate international cooperation.

Assistant Professor, Dr. Jiang Cheng from Temple University introduced the university, including the year of founding, degree programs, number of students and campuses, as well as departments and faculties, academic rankings and renowned alumni of the Fox School of Business. He highlighted the proposal for substantive cooperation with XJTU, including the Finance Summit Forum and the China-US Center for Financial Studies. He pointed out that the purpose of the trip was to combine the strengths of XJTU and Temple University and carry out pragmatic cooperation on programs with international influence.

Temple University, founded in 1884, is situated in Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania on the eastern coast of the USA, and is a first-class public research university with a history of more than 130 years. Temple University has a strong commitment to the philosophy of equal access to education and is named among top three in the city, as well as among top three public universities in the state.

Temple University is the 36th largest among all higher education institutions in the USA in terms of gross land area and has 17 schools and departments, including the School of Business, the School of Law, the School of Medicine, the School of Pharmacy and the School of Dentistry. It offers 134 undergraduate majors, 121 master’s majors and 56 doctor’s majors, and has more than 39,000 students. It is one of the most comprehensive universities in the country. Philadelphia where Temple University is located is nicknamed the City of Brotherly Love, is the fourth largest metropolitan in the USA only next to New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, and is the birthplace of the country.

Temple University was among 108 top (top 2%) research universities in the USA on RU-VHR 2016, ranked the 115th among all universities in the USA in terms of comprehensive ranking and the 60th among public universities by US News and is among first-class national universities.

About Prof. Kosh John

He is a member of the Nomination Committee for Nobel Prize in Economics, and a Chair Professor in Finance at the Fox School of Business, Temple University. He was Lecture Professor in Finance at The New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business, and also taught at The University of Chicago and Columbia University. He was the Chairman of Financial Management Association. He has to date published 103 papers on leading journals on finance and economics, including American Economic Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, to name a few. He is a close partner of many distinguished economists in China and mentored 101 PhDs, who are now professors at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT, among other top universities, after graduation.
