On the morning of August 9, Kurt T. Dirks, Vice President of Washington university in st Louis, led a delegation to visit Xi'an jiaotong university. Vice President Xi Guang met with the delegation in conference room 107 of the Science Building.

Xi Guang gave a brief introduction about Xi'an Jiaotong University. Xi 'an Jiaotong University is making every effort to build Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour.He suggested that the two universities expand substantive cooperation in different disciplines such as joint training of undergraduate and graduate students, international laboratory construction and scientific research on the basis of existing good cooperation.

Vice President Kurt T. Dirks pointed out that through University Alliance of the Silk Road initiated by Xi'an Jiaotong University and the McDonnell Douglas Institute of International Scholars initiated by Washington University, the two universities have achieved good cooperation in various fields and have great potential for future cooperation. The purpose of this visit is to consolidate the existing foundation of cooperation and to seek more opportunities for cooperation. It is expected that the two universities will deepen their cooperation in joint scientific research, undergraduate and graduate training.

After the meeting, Vice President Xi Guang and Vice President Kurt T. Dirks signed a memorandum of understanding on behalf of the two universities, agreeing that both sides will actively work on multidisciplinary cooperation in the fields of scientific research, education, training and government consultation.
