On May 12, the 4th Standing Council of Silk Road University Alliance was held in Xi'an Jiaotong University. Xi'an Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Hong Kong Institute of Technology, Bowman State University in Moscow, Kazakhstan State University, Nazarbayev University, Milan Institute of Technology, Moscow Power and Engineering College, Liverpool University, New South Wales University, Pakistan State University of Science and Technology, Busan University, Paris Central Institute of Technology and Higher Electric Power, Washington University in St. Louis, Kyrgyz State University of Architecture, Transportation, Egyptian Ben Ha University, Sabanche University in Turkey, St. Petersburg University of Technology and other 18 permanent members gathered at Xi'an Jiaotong University to discuss cooperation and development. The conference was hosted by Xi'an Jiaotong University, chairman of the Silk Road University Union and secretariat unit.
Wang Shuguo, president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, spoke on behalf of the president unit of the Alliance. He pointed out the Silk Road University Alliance provides a platform for coalition members to brainstorm. The Silk Road is not only a road, a region, but also a spirit. Today, 18executive committee members gathered in Xi'an Jiaotong University to practice the spirit of the Silk Road with their actions. The alliance's purpose of "peaceful cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit" is the core of the alliance, which is different from other different types of alliances.
Xi Guang, Vice President of Xi'an Jiaotong University, made a report on the work of the alliance to the Council on behalf of the secretariat of the alliance. The report reviews the recent progress of the alliance.
During the experience sharing session, vice president of Hong Kong Polytechnic University Miranda Lou, the vice president of Liverpool University Dinah Brich, and the associate professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University's Telecommunications Institute Qian Buyue and Wang Youfa, the president of the Global Health Research Institute briefed the council on the contents of relevant projects and their future development plans from four directions.
Representatives of the 18 permanent members discussed the operation mechanism of the alliance, the construction of the sub-alliance and the direction of the alliance's future sustainable development, and reviewed the applications for membership of 15 universities.
After discussion at the conference, 15 universities from 10 countries and regions became new members of the Silk Road University Alliance. So far, 151 universities in 37 countries and regions have become members of the Silk Road University Alliance.
