Asian Institute of Technology delegation led by President Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai visits XJTU

In the morning of September 22, an Asian Institute of Technology delegation comprised of five members, including President Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean of School of Engineering Voratas Kachitvichynaukul and Director of Department of International Cooperation Shawn Patrick Kelly, visited XJTU. President Wang Shuguo met the guests at the Meeting Room 107 of the Science Building.

 

 

 

Wang Shuguo welcomed President Worsak and the delegation and shared with the guests the introduction of XJTU’s designation as national first-class class A university and its development blueprint. As the government attaches great importance to the development of west regions, XJTU will stay open-minded, and to strengthen international cooperation and to seek parallel growth with foreign universities. Wang Shuguo then introduced the basic facts and concept of the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour. He said the Harbour will create an opportunity of exchanges for universities, and make universities more open-minded and international. Wang Shuguo noted that XJTU aims not only to become a world first-class university, but also become a great university. He wished Asian Institute of Technology would push ahead cooperation with XJTU and make efforts on the growth of both universities and the development of students on both sides. He Changzhong, Director of the Department of International Cooperation & Exchanges, XJTU, reviewed the developments of cooperation between XJTU and Thailand, including the visit by Princess Sirindhorn, the launching of some scholarships, and the cooperation between the School of Pharmacy and Chiang Mai University. He wished that the two parties would cement the ties and XJTU would draw upon the successful experiences of Asian Institute of Technology in UN official training base.

President Worsak gave a brief presentation on international programs offered by Asian Institute of Technology. He pointed out that universities should do more than teaching, and should also strengthen international cooperation and drive inter-disciplinary studies that can effectively push advancement of the society. President Worsak showed great interests in cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and wished the two universities would deepen mutual understanding. Dean Voratas hoped that the two parties would exchange experiences in standards drafting in the field of electronic information, telecommunication, and equipment and instruments. Director Kelly said that Asian Institute of Technology is a partner of China Scholarship Council and provides scholarships every year to students in all countries in pursuit of academic degrees in Thailand and he wished to attract students at XJTU to Asian Institute of Technology for advanced studies.

 

 

 

Director He Changzhong of the Department of International Cooperation & Exchanges, Deputy Director Lei Yanjun from School of Public Policy and Administration and Professor Guo Xuesong were all presented at the meeting.

About Asian Institute of Technology

Asian Institute of Technology, located in the north suburbs of Bangkok, Thailand, was established in 1959 by ASEAN to promote advanced engineering education and has become one of the largest international graduate schools in Asia. And the Institute was funded by the government of many countries and regions (including the Chinese government), international organizations, foundations, business organizations and individuals. It aims to cultivate talents of high quality who also have a strong leadership to drive sustainable development of the world and regional economy. The faculty of Asian Institute of Technology has members from 28 countries and regions. Some 2000 students from 49 countries are currently studying at Asian Institute of Technology. Since its inception, it has more than 12000 graduates coming from 72 countries and regions.

Asian Institute of Technology has the School of Engineering and Technology, the School of Environment, Resources and Development, and the School of Management. All schools provide master degree and doctoral degree. All classes are taught in English. It has become a UN official training base.
